Project Background/Description

Our main intentions for building this game are to sharpen the processing of arithmetic skills of a 8-9 year old target audience with a time-critical situation. Recalling arithmetic solutions proves to be an essential skill for cognitive ability. Providing students with a fun, interactive game that requires them to process math problems in order to acquire power-ups and ammunition in order to win, positively reinforces the student with rewards for answering the math problems correctly and quickly. This is the core purpose of making learning fun with an interactive ‘edutainment’ video game.

The player controls a boat with the arrow keys and shoots juvenile projectiles ranging from grapes to water balloons at an enemy ship while the enemy ship fires back. Success in the game will depend on hand-eye coordination, strategy, and of course speed and accuracy in solving elementary math problems.
